Cambier Parc wins the Del Mar Oaks at Del Mar

OXO Equine's Cambier Parc dazzled with a quick closing kick Aug. 17 in the $302,808 Del Mar Oaks Presented by The Jockey Club (G1T) at Del Mar.

The 3-year-old Medaglia d'Oro  filly out of Canadian Horse of the Year Sealy Hill rated seventh on the rail for Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez early in the 1 1/8-mile turf test, then swung five wide into the stretch to charge for home with brilliant speed.

Cambier Parc capped a huge day coast-to-coast for trainer Chad Brown, who also won the Alabama Stakes (G1) with Dunbar Road at Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York, where his Regal Glory dead-heated for victory in the Lake Placid Stakes (G2T).

"I left all the terms of guidance to John and to Chad Brown," said owner Larry Best. "The horse looked very relaxed all the way around, and I'm glad she had the turn of foot to get home."

Cambier Parc, winner of the June 6 Wonder Again Stakes (G3T) and March 2 Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3T), picked up the first grade 1 win of her career off a third in the July 6 Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1T) at Belmont Park. She was sent off as the 6-5 favorite in a 13-horse field and won by 1 1/4 lengths over Hidden Message after tracking pacesetter Raymundos Secret through fractions of :23.31, :46.89, 1:10.50, and a mile in 1:34.77. The final time was 1:46.75 on firm turf.

"It sure is nice to ride one like this," Velazquez said. "When you ask for it, they give it to you. We were in a good spot the first time by the wire. When we went past the three-quarters, I shifted her out to where she was comfortable. We'd already saved enough ground, and I wanted to get her going. She took care of it from there."

Lady Prancealot finished third, a half-length behind Hidden Message and 1 1/4 lengths ahead of fourth-place finisher Keeper Ofthe Stars.

Cambier Parc was bred in Kentucky by Bonne Chance Farm and was a $1.25 million purchase by Best from Gainesway's consignment to the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She improved her earnings to $497,460 with four wins and a third from seven starts.

Sealy Hill, a daughter of Point Given who raced to earnings of $1.7 million and earned three Sovereign Awards while winning the 2007 filly Triple Crown in Canada, has produced nine foals, six runners, and five winners. Her first foal, the Distorted Humor  filly Hillaby, was named champion female sprinter in Canada in 2014.

Sealy Hill produced a full sister to Cambier Parc in 2017, and that filly brought $425,000 from Whisper Hill Farm when consigned by Gainesway to the 2018 Keeneland September sale. The mare dropped an Into Mischief  colt in 2018 who is set to go through the upcoming Keeneland September sale with Gainesway, and was barren for 2019.
