Maximum Security wins the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park

Gary and Mary West's Maximum Security worked 1 1/8 miles at Monmouth Park Aug. 28, and trainer Jason Servis said he will likely ship the TVG.com Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) and Xpressbet Florida Derby (G1) winner to Parx Racing for the Sept. 21 Pennsylvania Derby (G1) sometime between Sept. 5-7.

Servis said Maximum Security "went a mile in 1:53 and change and was out in a mile and an eighth in 2:04 and change."

Clockers had the New Year's Day colt finishing up the last half-mile mile in :53 2/5 before he galloped out another eighth of a mile. Servis said Maximum Security went the opening half-mile in one minute flat.

"He's doing pretty good," Servis said. "He's doing very good now."

The Pennsylvania Derby carries a $1 million purse. Servis passed on the Aug. 24 Runhappy Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course last week because he did not feel Maximum Security was where he wanted him to be at that point.

"I've had some time and space, and I am happy about that," he said.

Servis said he would ship Maximum Security to Parx late next week with the hope of getting two breezes over the track, adding he will make the decision early next week.
