Cute Foals of the Week (Jan. 25)

Thoroughbreds in North America all celebrate their birthdays on January 1, so as soon as the New Year rolls around, so does “foaling season” – that magical time that lasts from the beginning of January through the late spring when racehorse babies are born. In this weekly piece, we’ll bring you the best of new arrivals to the Thoroughbred world!

This little lady is tiny horse racing royalty! Her mother is Marketing Mix, who earned over $2 million on the track; and her father is super sire Tapit.

It seems like it was a good week for fillies! This little daughter of Heidi Maria is by Paynter, who galloped his way into fans’ hearts after overcoming a horrible illness to run and win again. The foals of 2015 are his first!

This baby is brand new in this photo! If you wonder why the daughter of Curlin and Walkwithapurpose is has a reddish hue in the picture, farms keep overhead heat lamps in their foaling stalls to make sure the new arrivals are comfortable.

Claiborne Farm’s very first foal of 2015 is a daughter of Data link and Silvertonguediva – she looks very sweet!

Well, the first foal has hit the ground here at Claiborne Farm! This cute filly (Data Link - Silvertonguediva) belongs to our Farm Manager, Bradley Purcell. She was born last night around 9:30 pm.

This little lady is the very first foal ever for mama Tabulation, who welcomed a filly by 2007 Kentucky Derby Street Sense on January 21.
