Tests revealed no significant injuries to multiple graded stakes-winning Wildcat Red following his fifth-place finish in the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Classic on Jan. 17 at Gulfstream Park.
Honors Stable's 4-year-old son of D'wildcat is back with trainer Jose Garoffalo at Gulfstream after having been sent to the Palm Beach Equine Clinic last week, where exams showed the Florida-bred colt had a pulled muscle in his back.
"The bone scan came out clean. It's a muscle problem, so he'll be OK sooner than later," Garoffalo said. "We checked all the bones and there is no issue, which is a good sign. All he needs is time."
Garoffalo said no timetable has been set on a return for Wildcat Red, a winner of five of 14 starts and $936,875 in purses, including the Hutcheson (gr. III) and Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth (gr. II) last winter at Gulfstream.
"He'll be out at least for 30 days," Garoffalo said. "After the first 30 days we will reevaluate the horse and then we'll see. We'll just go day by day. The good thing is there are no fractures and nothing to worry about."
