Thoroughbred owner Mike Anderson, who fully immersed himself in his interests, died Sept. 1 at his Chicago home. He was 67.
Family noted Anderson's passion for sports, which turned to horse racing in recent years.
"Over the years, Mike developed a passion for horse racing and jumped into the life of buying, selling, and racing horses, which became his ultimate passion," the family said in Anderson's obituary. "Even when he was diagnosed with cancer (two years ago), he did not let that stop him. He would go every other week for treatment, and as soon as that treatment was done, he was jetting off to some other part of the world engaging in whatever activity he had on his calendar."
One of Anderson's top horses, Jais's Solitude, just secured a graded stakes placing when he rallied to a runner-up finish in the Aug. 31 New Kent County Virginia Derby (G3T) at Colonial Downs. In April 2018, Anderson purchased Jais's Solitude for $125,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, where the son of Afleet Alex was consigned by McKathan Bros.
Anderson owned car dealerships throughout Indiana. Both on his own and through his businesses, he supported many community events and charities.
Mike is survived by his wife, Linda; son Mike Anderson (Micae); daughter Katy Props (Eric); son Daniel Anderson (Sarah); five grandchildren; brothers Paul Anderson (Amy) and Chris Anderson (Bonnie); and sister Joan Scott (Greg).
