After finishing fourth in his stakes debut at Saratoga Race Course, Peruvian Boy will return to Arlington International Racecourse in search of his first stakes win when he starts in the $75,000 Arlington-Washington Futurity Sept. 7.
Pedro Koechlin's Peruvian Boy got his first win at Arlington with a narrow maiden victory over King Snake July 13 in a five-furlong race on the all-weather surface. Trainer Ignacio Correas IV then shipped the Tapiture colt to Saratoga, where he finished fourth to Green Light Go in the Aug. 10 Saratoga Special Stakes (G2) at 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt.
Since that effort, Peruvian Boy has breezed twice at Arlington, including a bullet move Aug. 23 when he completed four furlongs in :46 3/5.
Among the eight 2-year-olds awaiting Peruvian Boy in the seven-furlong race on the main track will be Godolphin homebred Breckenridge, who finished fourth in his July 13 debut at five furlongs but 15 days later appeared to appreciate stretching out to seven furlongs when the son of Elusive Quality rolled to an 8 3/4-length victory.
Breckenridge is the first starter for the Street Cry mare Tempting View, a full sister to Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Street Sense .
A pair of juveniles who scored impressive debut wins will make their stakes debuts. Harold Lerner's January Won, a son of New Year's Day, rallied from fifth to post a clear victory in a 5 1/2-furlong race July 18 at Saratoga, and Patricia's Hope's Vincent William rolled to a 4 3/4-length score June 22 at Arlington. Trained by Larry Rivelli, Vincent William then finished third in a 5 1/2-furlong allowance race on the turf at Colonial Downs Aug. 8.
Also Saturday, an expected field of 10 promising juvenile fillies will take aim at their first stakes win in the $75,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes. The field includes three fillies making their second starts after clear victories in their maiden special weight debuts.
Patricia's Hope's Angelcents opened a clear advantage early in a June 23 race at 4 1/2 furlongs and wasn't seriously challenged in winning by 5 3/4 lengths. The Florida-bred daughter of Goldencents —Pomeroy Angel, by Pomeroy, was purchased for $250,000 at this year's Ocala Breeders' Sales March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, where she was consigned by Blazing Meadows Farm.
Fifthatnarraganset, who is owned by Michael Geraldi and Muddy Waters Stables, rallied from sixth to win a seven-furlong test July 25 by 1 1/4 lengths.
Lothenbach Stables' Mom's Red Lipstick drew off in the stretch of a five-furlong race July 13 to score by 4 1/2 lengths.
