Iowa Sale Topped by Liaison Yearling Filly

Description:

A yearling filly by Liaison  with a timely catalog update was purchased by Tom Allen for $60,000 to top the Iowa Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association's Fall All Age Thoroughbred Sale Sept. 5 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa.

Consigned as Hip 14 by Eagle Wings Farm, agent for her Iowa breeder, Allen H. Poindexter's Poindexter Thoroughbreds, the filly is a half sister to Kauai, Poindexter's homebred who won the Sept. 2 Iowa Breeders' Derby to increase his earnings to $201,064. The filly's dam, Gizzy (by Malabar Gold), has foaled six winners from six runners, including 2017 Iowa Stallion Filly Stakes winner Honolulu and 2018 Iowa Breeders' Oaks runner-up Glitzy Lady.

From 52 offered, ITBOA reported 38 horses sold for $469,800, an average price of $12,363 with a $5,500 median. The RNA rate was 26.9%. Those figures represent a significant improvement over the 2018 auction in which 32 horses averaged $8,888 on gross receipts of $284,400, with a $4,250 median and 23.8% RNA rate.

Second-highest price this year was the $50,000 winning bid from NBS Stable for an Iowa-bred filly from the first crop of Exaggerator . A supplemental entry into the catalog, the filly was consigned as Hip 52 by Madison County Thoroughbreds, agent for breeder Kenneth Mike White and the Exaggerator Syndicate.

The filly was produced from the Forestry mare Fire and Forget, a six-time winner who earned $80,077 and is a half sister to four-time grade 3 stakes winner and $920,350 earner Terra Promessa.
