Flap Jack wins the Arlington-Washington Futurity at Arlington International Racecourse

Flap Jack, entering the race still a maiden, and second-time starter Mom's Red Lipstick upset the final graded stakes of the season Sept. 7 at Arlington International Racecourse, the Arlington-Washington Futurity (G3) and Arlington-Washington Lassie (G3).

Flap Jack, a Calumet Farm homebred by 2013 Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Oxbow , rallied from mid-pack under Sophie Doyle to win the Futurity by four lengths while Mom's Red Lipstick chased down Spitefulness in deep stretch before winning by three-quarters of a length.

Plans for both winners are up in the air but trainer Jack Sisterson said Flap Jack will be pointed toward races offering a Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" chance for the Nov. 1 TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) at Santa Anita Park.

Flap Jack, out of the Tapit  mare Synkros, chased the pace made by Vincent William. Entering the stretch, Doyle found room between horses and the colt responded willingly, drawing off with one tap of the whip.

Woopigsooie rallied from far back to finish second with odds-on favorite Peruvian Boy settling for third.

"He settled in nice," Doyle said, "and I just kept him out of trouble. He made a nice move when I asked him."

"We'll probably put him back on the dirt," Sisterson said. Flap Jack opened his career on the Ellis Park dirt, finishing fifth, then just missed over the Arlington turf, finishing second in his only other race.

"We'll look at Keenland or Belmont," Sisterson said. "We've thought he's an above-average 2-year-old since his first couple of nice works."

Trainer Chris Block said the future for Mom's Red Lipstick is less clear since the Race Day  filly won at first asking on the Arlington all-weather July 13 in her only previous start.

"You never know how they'll do if you put them on the dirt," Block said. "I had a filly who won this race two years ago (Bet She Wins), going off like a shot. But when we tried her on dirt -- nothing. I don't think she ever won another race."

Bet She Wins finished sixth in the Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1) after winning the Lassie and ran made seven more starts without a win.

Still, Block said, he and owner Lothenbach Stables will look at races on both dirt and turf at Keeneland and Belmont before making a decision whether to be ambitious with their filly, who is out of the Warrior's Reward mare Sweet Lorraine.

"There is a juvenile turf sprint in the fall," Block said, referring to the newest addition to the Breeders' Cup World Championships program. "That might be something to think about."

In the Lassie, Mom's Red Lipstick chased odds-on favorite Angelcents through the early furlongs. When that rival refused to settle and nearly bolted on the turn, jockey Jose Lopez moved Mom's Red Lipstick through behind Spitefulness. The two battled down the stretch with Mom's Red Lipstick gradually working to the lead inside the sixteenth pole.

Angelcents was eased in the final furlong.
