High On Gin wins the Happy Ticket Stakes at Louisiana Downs

Jerry Caroom's High On Gin remained undefeated and became the first black-type winner for her sire, Florida stallion Fury Kapcori , when she drew off by two lengths to win the $60,000 Happy Ticket Stakes Sept. 7 on the turf at Louisiana Downs.

The 2-year-old filly won the 7 1/2-furlong test for juvenile fillies in a final time of 1:30.21 after closing from seventh under jockey Devin Magnon. She coupled the score with a maiden win earned by 2 1/4 lengths Aug. 21 at first asking going five furlongs on the dirt for trainer Carl Deville.

Bred in Florida by Deborah A. Silveira out of Holiday Ashley, a daughter of The Cliff's Edge, High on Gin was a $7,500 purchase by Caroom from GOP Racing Stable Corporation's consignment to the Ocala Breeders' Sales June 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale.

Fury Kapcori stands at Brent and Crystal Fernung's Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla., where his 2019 fee was $2,500. A son of Tiznow —Gin Running, by Go for Gin, Fury Kapcori posted a 6-5-1 career line from 18 starts, was a grade 1-placed juvenile, won the 2014 Precisionist Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita Park, and earned $521,040 in four seasons of racing. He is a full brother to grade 2 winner Tizfiz and a half brother to 2010 Turf Paradise Derby winner Dixie Commander, and is from the same family as 1997 Horse of the Year Favorite Trick.
