Alex Solis II and Jason Litt were working hard during the Sept. 13 fourth session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, and their efforts were displayed on the results sheet.

Topping the pair's purchases at $700,000 was Hip 678, a bay son of Speightstown  out of a deep female family that produced this year's Woodward Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1) winner, Preservationist; multiple graded stakes winner Hungry Island, and grade 3 winner Soaring Empire.

Consigned by Gainesway, the colt was bred in Kentucky by Emory Hamilton out of the graded stakes-placed Medaglia d'Oro  mare Tokyo Time, who was also bred and raced by Hamilton. The mare was second in the 2013 Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3T) and has one other foal of racing age by Empire Maker  that has not started yet and had a 2019 filly by Quality Road .

Litt said the colt will be campaigned by a partnership that includes the Roth family's LNJ Foxwoods, Everett Dobson's Cheyenne Stables, and Robert Clay's Grandview Equine. The colt was raised at Helen Alexander's Middlebrook Farm.

"He's a beautiful colt with a lovely pedigree, raised on a spectacular farm," Litt said. "We've had a lot of luck buying from Gainesway and something raised at Helen Alexander's farm. He's a beautiful mover."

For $350,000, Solis/Litt purchased a Pioneerof the Nile  colt (Hip 849) from Hunter Valley Farm, agent. Produced from the Ashland Stakes (G1) winner and $1.2 million earner Hooh Why, the colt was bred in Kentucky by SF Bloodstock.

The colt had been purchased in the name Andrew Williams Bloodstock for $200,000 from the Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Litt said he and Solis found a lot of quality in the offerings at the session that kicked off Book 2 of the sale, and they hope to keep buying until the Sept. 22 final session.

"It's quality, and there are plenty of people here with money," Litt said. "There are some lovely horses here, and we're here to buy them. It's just a continuation (of Book 1), and we've got people for them. Whatever falls into our lap, we're here for it. I hope Book 6 has as many good horses."

The pair also purchased two Uncle Mo  colts for $200,000 and a Not This Time  colt consigned by Scott Mallory, agent, out of the Rockport Harbor mare Primal Desire for $80,000 during the fourth session of the September sale, spending a total of $1.53 million. Of the Uncle Mo colts, Hip 671 was consigned by Lane's End out of the Congrats  mare Temper Mint Patty, and Hip 801 was consigned by Eaton Sales, agent for Stonestreet Bred & Raised, and is out of the Montbrook mare Exotic Bloom.

The only other purchase made by Solis/Litt was Hip 359, a $425,000 Speightstown filly from the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment to Book 1.
