Winchell Thoroughbreds' champion 3-year-old filly Untapable completed the first workout of her 4-year-old season Monday, Jan. 26, when she breezed four furlongs in :51.4/5 on a fast track at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Also working for Asmussen Monday was Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I) runner-up Tapiture, who completed the same distance in :52 1/5 as both Winchell Thoroughbreds homebreds eased into their 4-year-old seasons. Untapable and Tapiture are both by leading sire Tapit .
"They worked very well; 'fantastic' might have been the adjective I heard (from Asmussen)," said Winchell racing manager David Fiske. "They both went very easily and were traveling great. Everyone is pretty pleased. We'll get them fit and see how long that takes and start looking for spots."
Meanwhile in South Florida, trainer Todd Pletcher sent out multiple grade I winner Stephanie's Kitten for a four-furlong breeze on the Palm Meadows training center turf. The Ken and Sarah Ramsey homebred completed the half-mile work in :48, which was third-fastest of the 33 horses to work at the distance.
At Santa Anita Park Monday, recent San Pasqual Stakes (gr. II) winner Hoppertunity completed five furlongs in 1:00 3/5, 10th fastest of 51 five-furlong moves. The grade I winner worked for trainer Bob Baffert.
