Bulletin was quick to find success on the racetrack, posting victories in his first three races, all turf sprint stakes. And after two losses, the speedy son of City Zip is entered for his first start on the main track in Parx Racing's $300,000 Gallant Bob Stakes (G2), going six furlongs for 3-year-olds Sept. 21.
The WinStar Farm, China Horse Club, and SF Racing runner only started twice as a juvenile but swept the Hollywood Beach Stakes at Gulfstream Park and the inaugural Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs. He returned at 3 to win the April 4 Palisades Turf Sprint Stakes at Keeneland, then ran fourth after dueling on the lead in the April 27 William Walker Stakes at Churchill.
Trainer Todd Pletcher last saddled Bulletin in the Aug. 25 Better Talk Now Stakes going a mile at Saratoga Race Course. In making his first start in four months and first race beyond 5 1/2 furlongs, he finished third after setting opening fractions of :23.74 and :46.94 through the first half.
Bulletin will have jockey Mike Smith aboard for the first time Saturday when he breaks from the outside post of nine. 4-1 on the morning line, the chestnut will carry 120 pounds, two more than the rest of the field.
Shipping from the West Coast is Michael Stinson's lightly-raced King Jack, a winner of his first two starts and runner-up to Improbable in the one-mile Shared Belief Stakes at Del Mar Aug. 25. The Jimmy Creed colt won his debut in a six-furlong maiden special weight June 1 at Santa Anita Park and followed with a seven-furlong allowance optional claimer July 17 at Del Mar.
King Jack has been assigned 2-1 morning-line favoritism. Joel Rosario has been named to ride the Jerry Hollendorfer trainee from post 7.
Also coming from California is ERJ Racing, John Fuller, Dave Kenney, and Madaket Stables' Landeskog, trained by Doug O'Neill. The Munnings gelding scored on debut during Oaklawn Park's meet and finished second when passed by Nitrous in the Bachelor Stakes. He was off the board in the June 8 Woody Stephens Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park but returned Aug. 4 to win a 5 1/2-furlong allowance optional claimer at Del Mar by 4 3/4 lengths.
Jockey Abel Cedillo, who was aboard for the allowance score, retains the mount. The second choice at 7-2, Landeskog will break from post 6.
JCA Racing Stable's Trophy Chaser is set to make his second start off nearly an eight-month layoff. The Twirling Candy colt romped second time out as a 2-year-old at Gulfstream, breaking his maiden by 15 3/4 lengths over a sloppy track, before running in three stakes going a mile. He was fifth in the Champagne (G1) at Belmont, a distant second to Improbable in the Street Sense at Churchill, and he kicked off his sophomore campaign with a neck loss to Mihos in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes.
Trainer Juan Carlos Avila brought Trophy Chaser back Aug. 30 in a seven-furlong allowance at Gulfstream, where the colt led every step. Trophy Chaser, listed at 6-1 on the morning line, will have Jose Ortiz aboard when breaking from post 3.
