After dominating other New York-bred fillies in her four starts on dirt, Newly Minted is entered in graded stakes company for the first time in the $300,000 Charles Town Oaks (G3) Sept. 21 at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.
Beach Haven Thoroughbreds' Newly Minted enters the two-turn, seven-furlong test for 3-year-old fillies off a nine-length score over New York-bred sophomore fillies in the 1 1/8-mile Fleet Indian Stakes Aug. 23 at Saratoga Race Course. That effort gave the daughter of Central Banker a fourth win in as many dirt starts. Her one blemish in five career starts was a third-place finish in a June 23 division of the New York Stallion Stakes on the Belmont Park turf.
Unraced at 2, Newly Minted has posted her four dirt wins this season by a combined total of 24 3/4 lengths. Her other stakes wins, both over New York-bred 3-year-old fillies, came in the seven-furlong Bouwerie Stakes May 27 at Belmont and in an April 20 division of the New York Stallion Stakes going 6 1/2 furlongs at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Newly Minted is trained by Linda Rice, who won the 2015 Charles Town Oaks with Hot City Girl.
Bred by Chester and Mary Broman, Newly Minted is out of the Bernardini mare Newbie, who has produced two winners from as many starters, including stakes-placed New Girl in Town.
While the expected field of 10 does not include a graded stakes winner, the runners have a combined 16 stakes victories.
Other multiple stakes winners are Melinda Golden's Parisian Diva, a three-time winner of stakes for West Virginia-breds at Charles Town; e Five Racing Thoroughbreds' Lovesick, who has won stakes at Gulfstream Park and Gulfstream Park West; Denlea Park and Kent Spellman's grade 3-placed Fashion Faux Pas, a winner of stakes at Delaware Park and Tampa Bay Downs; and Mark Norman and Norman Stables' five-time stakes winner Taylor's Spirit.
Trainer Todd Pletcher will send out Mathis Stable's South of France, a stakes winner last year at Aqueduct who will make her second start of the season after a solid second-place effort in an allowance-level race Aug. 11 at Saratoga.
Even with all those accomplished stakes runners, LNJ Foxwoods' La Chancla figures to be favored or among the favorites in her stakes debut Saturday. Trained by Rodolphe Brisset, the daughter of Uncle Mo enters off clear victories in a July 7 maiden race at Belmont—her second start—followed by an allowance-level win Aug. 10 at Saratoga.
The Charles Town Oaks is one of eight stakes totaling $710,000 in purses on the Charles Town card. Hollywood Casino At Charles Town Races, Saturday, September 21, 2019, Race 11Entries: Charles Town Oaks (G3)
