Lady TNT earned her first win of the year and the first stakes win of her career Sept. 21, upsetting the field of the $300,000 Charles Town Oaks (G3) while running wire-to-wire.
The seven-furlong test, which went off late Saturday evening, drew a field of nine 3-year-old fillies, none a serious threat to the winner.
The Justin Phillip filly trained by Joe Sharp set fractions of :23.25, :47.01, and 1:11.79 for six furlongs before completing the distance in 1:25.23 over a muddy track under jockey J.D. Acosta.
Lady TNT finished second in three of her four previous starts this year—twice in stakes—and was sent off at long odds in the Oaks. She returned $76.80, $19.40, and $9.60 to her backers. Irish Mischief rallied late to get up for second two lengths back, and Taylor's Spirit settled for third.
Lady TNT was purchased by her owners, Scott and Evan Dilworth, from the McKathan Bros. consignment to the 2018 Ocala Breeders' Sales March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training for $335,000. Last year, the filly broke her maiden by 5 1/2 lengths in her second start at Saratoga Race Course and followed that up with a 6 1/2-length score in a Churchill Downs allowance optional claiming race. However, after finishing 14th and last in the Darley Alcibiades Stakes (G1), she had yet to find the winner's circle.
Bred in Kentucky by Castleton Lyons, Lady TNT is out of the Salt Lake mare High Heeled Hope, who also produced grade 3 winner Sweet Hope, by Lemon Drop Kid .
Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races also hosted several stakes on the Oaks undercard, including the $100,000 Dickie Moore Stakes for 2-year-old fillies in which Jose Ortiz guided Colby to a three-quarter-length score. Colby rallied in the stretch to complete seven furlongs on a muddy track in 1:27.52.
The win was the second in three starts by the Super Saver filly who is trained by John Servis for D.J. Stable. The filly was purchased by her connections from the OBS March Sale. Servis signed the ticket for $440,000 from the Woodford Thoroughbreds consignment.
Danny Chen's Yorkiepoo Princess scored a two-length win in the $75,000 Misty Bennett Pink Ribbon Stakes on a sloppy track one race prior. The 5-year-old Kantharos mare edged clear in the stretch under Ortiz for trainer Claudio Gonzalez, who took over training in late July.
Four stakes for West Virginia-breds took place earlier on the card. The track was fast for most of the day until Penguin Power took the $51,450 Frank Gall Memorial Stakes for 3-year-olds and older by 3 1/4 lengths over a sloppy (sealed) main track while racing seven furlongs.
The other three stakes were run over a fast track, with Anna's Bandit scoring a 2 1/4-length win in the seven-furlong, $51,050 Sadie Hawkins Stakes for fillies and mares 3 and older; Hypothesis winning the 4 1/2-furlong, $51,150 Henry Mercer Memorial Stakes for 2-year-olds by four lengths; and Twirling Owen taking the 4 1/2-furlong, $51,200 Rachel's Turn Stakes for 2-year-old fillies by 5 1/4 lengths.
