Amazonian wins the British Columbia Oaks

After earning her first stakes win in her previous start, North American Thoroughbred Horse Company's Amazonian will look for more success in her graded stakes debut Sept. 28 in the $100,000 Ballerina Stakes (G3) at Hastings Racecourse.

Trained by Glen Todd, Amazonian has been consistent enough to finish on the board in all of her six starts, all at Hastings, while winning three of her past four. After a maiden-level score and allowance victory in July, Amazonian finished second in her stakes debut Aug. 5, finishing 7 1/4 lengths behind Sunburst in the $75,000 British Columbia Hong Kong Jockey Club Handicap.

A 3-year-old daughter of Malibu Moon out of the Giant's Causeway mare Fly the Flag, Amazonian turned the tables on Sunburst in her most recent start, a 2 1/4-length win in the $100,000 British Columbia Oaks Sept. 7.

Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Bennett's Sunburst also is entered in Saturday's 1 1/8-mile test. Trained by Barbara Heads, Sunburst had twice defeated Amazonian—also earning her maiden win in May in a race where her rival finished third—before finishing second in the British Columbia Oaks.
