There will be no losing streak for ultra consistent Hastings Racecourse-based filly Here's Hannah.
One start after seeing her seven-race win streak come to an end when she finished second—a head behind Bear—in the Delta Colleen Handicap Sept. 7 at Hastings, the 4-year-old Numaany filly turned the tables on that rival and four others to win the CA$100,000 (US$75,546) Ballerina Stakes (G3) Sept. 28 at Hastings.
The victory was the first graded stakes score for Here's Hannah—trained by John Morrison—and it was one of the most exciting efforts by the BC Stables homebred. After the British Columbia-bred put away a number of challengers while racing two wide on the front end, 3-year-old Sunburst found room on the inside under jockey Antonio Reyes in the third and final turn of the 1 1/8-mile race.
Making her graded stakes debut, Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Bennett's Sunburst moved to the lead nearing the top of the stretch, but Here's Hannah and her regular jockey, Richard Hamel, were not through. They quickly regrouped, reengaged the game Sunburst, and edged clear late, completing the race in 1:49.91 on a fast track.
The victory is the 12th for Here's Hannah from 14 starts. She has 11 black-type victories and has never finished off the board. She has earned $388,694.
Here's Hannah is one of three winners from four starters out of the unraced A Fleets Dancer mare Dreams Start Here.
