Grade 1 winner and second-crop sire Shakin It Up has been sold and relocated from Kentucky to Caines Stallion Station near Wynnewood, Okla., according to Chad Schumer, who brokered the deal.
Shakin It Up is a 9-year-old son of Midnight Lute out of the Vindication mare Silver Bullet Moon, who is a daughter of multiple grade 1 winner and multiple champion Silverbulletday.
The colt became a winner in his second start when he captured a six-furlong maiden special weight at Santa Anita Park by 4 1/2 lengths and stopped the timer in 1:09.45. Shakin It Up ended his 2-year-old year with a third in the Hollywood Prevue Stakes (G3). He returned at 3 with a win in the San Vicente Stakes (G2) and ended the year by winning the Malibu Stakes (G1). At 4, he won the Strub Stakes (G2) and was later runner-up in the Churchill Downs Stakes (G2). He retired with a 4-2-1 record out of 10 starts and earned $664,982.
At stud, Shakin It Up has sired 30 winners to date. His top runner is B. B. Dude, a gelding out of the Unbridled's Song mare Purrfect Song, who won the Kip Deville Stakes and the Manzano Stakes in 2018. Another son named War Bridle set a track record at Belterra Park last year, going 4 1/2 furlongs in :53.20.
Shakin It Up has been represented by six, six-figure purchases at 2-year-olds in training sales, led by a filly named Bowl of Soul that Spendthrift Farm bought for $400,000 at the 2018 Ocala Breeders' Sales' Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sales.
Caines Stallion Station will announce a 2020 stud fee at a later date.
