Ivette Perez Chambless' Zero Spent rolled to a 5 3/4-length victory in a Gulfstream Park West maiden special weight Oct. 5, becoming the first winner for his sire, I Spent It.
Zero Spent, a 2-year-old colt bred in Florida, made his second start in the six-furlong event. He was second, beaten half a length, in his Sept. 20 debut going the same distance at Gulfstream Park when entered for a $50,000 tag.
Jockey Leonel Reyes was aboard the Jose Garoffalo trainee, who stalked the pace through :22.83 and :46.25 opening fractions. Zero Spent drew off to a final time of 1:11.46 on a fast track.
Arthur Mergenhagen bred Zero Spent out of the Political Force mare Perfect Biscuit. Bobby Jones Equine consigned the colt at the 2018 Ocala Breeders' Sales October Yearling Sale, where Armando de La Cerda bought him for $15,000. Zero Spent went through the OBS auction ring again at this year's Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, and Garoffalo purchased him for $11,000 from consignor Blue River Bloodstock.
From his two starts, Zero Spent has collected $29,600.
I Spent It is a 7-year-old son of Super Saver located at Merrick Ranches near Sayre, Okla., who stood for $2,500 in 2019. He was campaigned by Alex and JoAnn Lieblong throughout his career, and Three Chimneys Farm joined the ownership group for the second half. With Anthony Dutrow as trainer, I Spent It was a debut winner at Belmont Park at 2 before winning the Toyota Saratoga Special Stakes (G2) at Saratoga Race Course. He returned at the Spa to finish second to Competitive Edge in the Hopeful Stakes (G1), then finished off the board in his last four starts. I Spent It earned $347,640 with a 2-1-0 record in seven starts.
Dixiana Farms bred I Spent It in Kentucky out of the Sky Mesa mare Rateeba. Lane's End consigned the bay his first time through the auction ring in 2013 at The October Sale, Fasig-Tipton's Kentucky fall yearling sale, when W.D. North purchased him for $65,000. The Lieblongs went to $600,000 for I Spent It when Eddie Woods consigned him at The Florida Sale in 2014. Ocala Stud stood the horse for his first breeding season in 2016.
Merrick Ranches' Joe Merrick acquired I Spent It for $22,000 at the 2017 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale.
