Jeff and Stacy Jeans have privately purchased Uncle Vinny from Stonewall's Prestige Stallions and will stand the son of Uncle Mo at Oakton Farm Stallions, it was announced Oct. 8.
Uncle Vinny was bred in Florida by Gilbert Campbell out of the Untuttable stakes-winning and multiple stakes-producing mare Arealhotlover. A $175,000 purchase by Starlight from Summerfield's consignment to the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, he was campaigned by Starlight Racing and trainer Todd Pletcher throughout his 12-start career, and broke his maiden on debut at 2. Two starts later he earned his first graded stakes win in the 2015 Sanford Stakes (G3) at Saratoga Race Course. He placed third that same year in the Hopeful Stakes (G1) before closing out his freshman season with a fifth-place finish in the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) at Keeneland.
Uncle Vinny retired in 2017 with a 2-1-2 record and earnings of $224,500. He entered stud at Stonewall's Prestige Stallions that same year and has three registered yearlings from his first crop.
"He is very straight, and looking at his first crop of babies, they too are very correct, with big butts and great shoulders," said Jeff Jeans. "Florida loves precociousness and speed and Uncle Vinny embodies both of these as demonstrated by his victories in the grade 3 Sanford going six furlongs and placing in the grade 1 Hopeful going seven furlongs as a juvenile."
A champion and earner of more than $1.6 million in purses, Uncle Mo was a two-time grade 1 winner at 2, winning the Champagne Stakes and Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile for Pletcher and owner Repole Stable and receiving the Eclipse Award as the champion 2-year-old male of 2010. The son of Indian Charlie retired in 2011 to stand at Coolmore's Ashford Stud. He is the sire of 51 stakes winners and three champions from five crops of racing age, and stood for a fee of $125,000 in 2019.
The Jeans appreciate the strong connections and relationships created in regional breeding programs.
"We currently own Airoforce , who is doing great in Pennsylvania under the care of Maria Vorhauer at Cabin Creek Farm," said Jeans.
Last year at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, the Jeans purchased grade 1 winner I Want Revenge in hopes of giving him a fresh start in Indiana. Unfortunately, the son of Stephen Got Even contracted a virus following his purchase and died shortly after arriving in Indiana.
The Jeans believe strongly that Uncle Vinny has all the qualities to become an exceptional regional stallion in Florida. He will stand at Oakton Farm Stallions under the care and management of Danielle (Dani) Dougherty for a fee of $3,000 live foal stands and nurses. Discounts will be available for black-type mares and multiple mare packages.
