Jean Elizabeth wins the Ontario Fashion Stakes at Woobine
Richard Ravin, Patricia's Hope, and Larry Rivelli's Jean Elizabeth made quick work of her competition Oct. 19 with a gate-to-wire victory in the CA$125,000 Ontario Fashion Stakes (G3) over six furlongs at Woodbine.
Guided by jockey Eurico da Silva, the 4-year-old daughter of Adios Charlie sprinted away from the gate early to set the pace, ticking off fractions of :22.39 and :45.07 for the half-mile. Summer Sunday came within a half-length of the leader to stalk the pace in second, followed by Special Relativity, who was hustled along the rail in third.
Extending her lead to 1 1/2 lengths at the top of the stretch, Jean Elizabeth drove determinedly toward the wire but was pressured in the two path by Special Relativity, who moved up to challenge in the final furlongs. Special Relativity managed to cut the leader's margin to less than one length before the finish, but was not able to overtake the winner, who crossed the wire three-quarters of a length in front.
Final time was 1:09.26 over the all-weather track.
Special Relativity held for second, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Heavenly Hill in third. Summer Sunday, Alnilah, and Sanity completed the order of finish.
It was the first graded score for Jean Elizabeth and her third of the year. The Larry Rivelli trainee's previous victories this season came in the July 6 Isaac Murphy Handicap at Arlington International Race Course and the Sept. 21 Sweet Briar Too Stakes at Woodbine. She finished second in her only other outing this year, an Aug. 4 allowance optional claiming race at Presque Isle Downs.
Jean Elizabeth's only other stakes win came in 2018 when she wired the field in Hawthorne's Pretty Jenny Stakes over the Ontario Fashion distance.
Bred in Illinois by owners Rivelli and Ravin, Jean Elizabeth is out of the Lit de Justice mare Rooney Doodle, who has also produced grade 3-placed What's Up Dude and stakes winner Dugout. The mare foaled a full brother to Jean Elizabeth Feb. 14.
Jean Elizabeth improved her record to 9-4-2 from 15 starts with $350,203 in earnings.
