Lift Up wins the Belle Mahone Stakes Sept. 8 at Woodbine

A pair of George Strawbridge Jr. homebreds join the field of nine contenders for the $125,000 Maple Leaf Stakes (G3), a 1 1/4-mile main track test for fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up, Nov. 2 at Woodbine.

Trainer Michael Dickinson will send out Strawbridge's Augustin Stable stablemates Lift Up and Theodora B. Both runners are daughters of Ghostzapper  and out of Dynaformer mares.

Lift Up, a seven time winner from 18 career starts, is a 5-year-old mare and no stranger to Woodbine, where she's compiled a 1-1-1 record from four starts and was runner-up in last year's Maple Leaf. In September, the Kentucky-bred bay won the Belle Mahone Stakes by a neck over She's the Berries, another Maple Leaf contender. Lift Up has won two stakes so far this year and comes into Saturday's feature off a fourth-place finish Sept. 28 in the All Along Stakes at Laurel Park.

Theodora B. is looking for a black-type breakthrough this year, having placed four times out of six stakes starts in 2019. The 4-year-old Kentucky-bred has been runner-up in the Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes (G3) and Violet Stakes this year and was most recently third by 1 3/4 lengths in the H.B.P.A. Stakes at Presque Isle Downs.

Brereton C. Jones' homebred She's the Berries, conditioned by Mark Casse, has been at the top of her game over her past three starts. After two runner-up efforts in the Eternal Search Stakes and Belle Mahone Stakes—both by a neck—the 4-year-old daughter of Badge of Silver was a nose the best in the Classy n' Smart Stakes on Sept. 29 at Woodbine.
