Carl Hurst and William "Buff" Bradley's listed Open Mind Stakes winner Divine Queen will be in search of her first graded stakes victory Nov. 2 as she tops a compact field of six rivals in the $200,000 Chilukki (G3) at Churchill Downs.
The one-mile Chilukki, for fillies and mares, is part of a stakes doubleheader at Churchill Downs with the $120,000-added Bet On Sunshine Overnight Stakes for 3-year-olds and up at six furlongs.
Divine Queen, a six-time winner from 17 starts and in the money four times from seven starts in 2019, sped off to a 2 3/4 lengths victory in six-furlong Open Mind. The homebred daughter of Divine Park returns to a mile, which she last contested Aug. 11 in a stakes at Ellis Park, where she finished second. Calvin Borel will be in the saddle and the duo will break from post 5.
Second choice in the morning line is the Sather Family's grade 3 winner Mylady Curlin who will cut back in distance following her third-place effort in the 8 1/2-furlong Locust Grove Stakes (G3) in September. Trained by Brad Cox, the 4-year-old Curlin filly will be ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan and break from post 2.
Two other rivals add intrigue to the Chilukki.
One is CJ Thoroughbreds, Left Turn Racing, and Casner Racing's impressive 9 1/4-length allowance winner Sally's Curlin, who has won her last two starts by wide margins. The 3-year-old Curlin filly is trained by Dale Romans and drew the rail with Corey Lanerie in the irons. Also entered is 2018 grade 2 winner Chocolate Martini, who won an optional claiming race in her 2019 debut but has been unplaced twice in grade 1s since then.
