Enticed , a multiple graded stakes-winning son of Medaglia d'Oro out of triple grade 1 winner It's Tricky, has been retired from racing and will stand the 2020 breeding season at Darley's Jonabell Farm near Lexington, the farm announced Oct. 31. His stud fee will be $10,000, stands and nurses.
The 4-year-old Godolphin homebred, who raced under the care of trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, broke his maiden on debut at Saratoga Race Course as a 2-year-old and placed in the Champagne Stakes (G1) before capturing his first graded victory in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs. He returned at 3 to win the Gotham Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct Racetrack, earning a 95 Beyer Speed Figure, before finishing second to Vino Rosso in the Wood Memorial Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G2).
Enticed is the second foal out of Godolphin's accomplished five-time graded stakes winner It's Tricky (Mineshaft ), who was also conditioned by McLaughlin. Her victories included the TVG Acorn Stakes (G1), the TVG Coaching Club American Oaks (G1), and the Ogden Phipps Handicap (G1). She was also runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (G1), TVG Alabama Stakes (G1), and Beldame Invitational Stakes (G1) and was third in the Personal Ensign Handicap (G1) during a career in which she earned more than $1.66 million.
Medaglia d'Oro is having another strong year with four new group/grade 1 winners, bringing his career total to 25. His top performers this year include Higher Power, who won the $1 Million TVG Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) and is a Longines Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) contender, plus Del Mar Oaks Presented by The Jockey Club (G1T) and Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes Presented by Lane's End (G1T) heroine Cambier Parc. The son of El Prado continues to be one of the most in-demand sires at the sales, with 17 million-dollar yearlings worldwide in the past four years.
"We are extremely excited to stand Enticed at Darley," said Darren Fox, Darley's sales manager in America. "A very special situation, really. A Godolphin homebred, by Medaglia d'Oro, and out of Godolphin's multiple grade 1 winner It's Tricky. Add to all that, he is physically outstanding, and we think he represents great value for breeders, with a lot of upside."
McLaughlin said, "It's Tricky was one of the best fillies I ever trained. It was so special to have a son of Medaglia d'Oro out of her show so much talent. Enticed was a very smart horse who really did everything right."
Enticed will be available for inspection Nov. 5-15 at Jonabell Farm's Open House from 1-3 p.m. ET daily.
