Palace Malice at Three Chimneys Farm
Three Chimneys Farm announced Nov. 4 that Palace Malice , winner of the Belmont Stakes (G1) and Metropolitan Handicap (G1), will stand the 2020 breeding season for a fee of $25,000 guaranteed live foal.
The sire of 13 first-crop winners, he also sired undefeated Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Presented by Coolmore America (G1T) winner Structor. Purchased from Pick View's consignment at the Ocala Breeders' Sales March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training for $850,000 by agent Mike Ryan, Structor entered the starting gate Nov. 1 at Santa Anita Park off an impressive win in the Pilgrim Stakes (G3T) at Belmont Park.
Trainer Chad Brown commented after the race that he is considering putting Structor on the Kentucky Derby trail.
"He looks like a true two-turn classic-type horse, so let's give him a shot and see," Brown said.
In addition to Structor, Palace Malice's first crop winners include Crystalle, a $220,000 OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training graduate who won the P. G. Johnson Stakes at Saratoga Race Course and finished a closing second in the Miss Grillo Stakes (G2T); Talkin Malice, winner of the Prairie Meadows Juvenile Stakes in his only start; Letsstaypositive, a debut maiden special weight winner at Keeneland by four lengths; and Spitefulness, runner-up in the Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes.
"We have always had a strong belief in Palace Malice's chances of developing into an important sire," said Three Chimneys owner Gonçalo Torrealba. "He was an immensely talented horse who Todd Pletcher described as the most versatile horse he had ever trained. He is cut in the mold of his classic sire Curlin , one of the most desirable stallions in the breed today. In setting his stud fee, we wanted to keep to our philosophy of providing fellow breeders with exceptional value."
Palace Malice stood for $15,000 in 2019.
