Jockey Florent Geroux, who broke his sternum in a spill during training Oct. 13 at Keeneland, has resumed breezing horses and is slated to ride Nov. 9 at Churchill Downs for the first time since his injury, according to agent Doug Bredar.
"He feels good," Bredar said. "The specialist cleared him to ride. We're good to go. No pain whatsoever."
Geroux's injury occurred Oct. 13 after a horse he was breezing, Triple Bend Stakes (G2) winner Air Strike, lost his action and fell shortly after completing a half-mile workout, leading to both horse and rider falling toward the inside rail. Air Strike "scratched up his hind legs a bit but thankfully will be OK," co-owner Slam Dunk Racing posted to Twitter after the spill.
The broken sternum forced Geroux to miss riding the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita Park earlier this month for which he had been initially booked to ride Totally Boss in the Turf Sprint (G1T), Acclimate in the Longines Turf (G1T) and Owendale in the Longines Classic (G1). Those horses picked up substitute riders and were unplaced in their respective races.
Geroux, 33, attended the Breeders' Cup, working as an on-camera analyst for a French television station. He is 12th-leading rider in North America by earnings in 2019, winning 132 races and his mounts have earned more than $10.1 million.
