Trainer Rodolphe Brisset watched his stable's top filly Talk Veuve to Me go through the auction ring Nov. 6 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, and when the hammer fell at $1.3 million, Brisset was elated to see the winning bidder was Stonestreet Stables' Barbara Banke.
"She's staying here at one of the best places you can be," said Brisset, a former assistant to Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott who began his own stable at Keeneland in April 2017. "That's good. I bought her with my own money to go on my own and then a friend of mine (bought) in and she took us on an awesome ride. She was amazing for us."
Offered as a racing or broodmare prospect and consigned as Hip 113 by WinStar Racing, Talk Veuve to Me is a 4-year-old filly from the first crop of Violence . From three wins in 13 starts, including the 2018 Indiana Oaks (G3), she has earned $506,967.
"We like her speed and running style. We watched all her races and were impressed by the company she kept and how quick she was," Banke said. "She's beautiful, too. We're going to send her in for a little R&R and see what we've got, and then we'll decide what to do. She's certainly a worthy addition to our broodmare band."
As a 3-year-old in 2018, Talk Veuve to Me chased home Mia Mischief to finish second in the Eight Belles Stakes Presented by Kentucky Trailer (G2) at Churchill Downs and followed that effort with another runner-up finish in the Acorn Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park, that time behind Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Monomoy Girl. Mia Mischief went on to win the 2019 Humana Distaff Stakes (G1), and Monomoy Girl completed her sophomore season with a Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) victory and a 3-year-old filly championship.
Talk Veuve to Me became a graded winner a start after the Acorn in the Indiana Oaks at Indiana Grand, taking over after the first half-mile and spurting away to a 4 3/4-length score. She completed 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.15.
Bred in Kentucky by JSM Equine, the dark bay filly is out of the Point Given mare Biblical Point, a full sister to stakes winner and multiple graded stakes-placed Winning Point. Biblical Point is also the dam of Tiffany Case, who placed in last year's West Virginia Secretary of State Stakes at Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack & Resort.
Wednesday was Talk Veuve to Me's fourth time through the auction ring. She failed to meet her reserve for $45,000 as a weanling during the 2015 Keeneland November sale when consigned by Allied Bloodstock. She came back with consignor Four Star Sales for the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, selling to Areion Thoroughbreds for $20,000. She was an RNA again through RiceHorse Stables' consignment to the 2017 Ocala Breeders' Sales March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale with a final bid of $95,000.
Talk Veuve to Me was campaigned by Brisset and Stephen McKay her first two starts. She broke her maiden second out at age 3 by 11 1/4 lengths, completing six furlongs at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in 1:09.65. Team Valor International bought into the filly after that effort.
Banke said Talk Veuve to Me, who last raced Oct. 5 when she finished off the board in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes (G2) at Keeneland, will receive a break before a decision is made on racing again or retiring.
"She seems like she needs a little time off, so that's the first step," Banke said.
When Talk Veuve to Me does begin her broodmare career, Banke said the filly will "probably" visit Curlin .
WinStar Racing will consign another Brisset trainee, Quip, Nov. 13 as Hip 3170A during the Horses of Racing Age portion of the Keeneland November sale. The 4-year-old Distorted Humor colt, bred by WinStar Farm and campaigned along with China Horse Club and SF Racing, is a multiple grade 2 winner with over $1 million in earnings. He will be offered as a racing or stallion prospect.
