Grade 1 winner Mia Mischief will likely stay in training for a 2020 campaign after selling for $2.4 million Nov. 5 to Stonestreet Stables at The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton's breeding stock sale in Lexington.
Stonestreet's Barbara Banke conferred with trainer Steve Asmussen immediately after bloodstock agent John Moynihan signed the ticket for the 4-year-old Into Mischief filly, who was consigned by ELiTE as Hip 150.
"Steve told us he felt that she was really in good shape," said Banke. "Of course, we'll go over her with a fine-tooth comb and make sure she's happy and healthy and everything like that, but with that in mind we'll probably race her next year, assuming she's 100%. I think it's good because it gives people a horse to follow. If they've been a fan, they can continue to be a fan."
Winner of the Humana Distaff Stakes (G1) at Churchill Downs this spring, Mia Mischief wrapped up her season with a five-length score in the Nov. 1 Dream Supreme Stakes, improving her record to eight wins and seven placings from 19 starts, with earnings of $1,083,834. She defeated eventual Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) winner Covfefe in the Roxelana Overnight Stakes, also at Churchill.
Bred in Kentucky by Spendthrift Farm, the filly was trained by Steve Asmussen for Bill and Corrine Heiligbrodt, Heider Family Stables, and Madaket Stables. The Heiligbrodts purchased her for $300,000 from McKathan Bros. in 2017 at The Gulfstream Sale, Fasig-Tipton's March 2-year-olds in training sale.
"She's super fast," Banke said. "I love her physique. She looks like speed. I have a certain date in mind for her (top stallion Curlin ) when she finishes her career, and I think that will be a very, very good nick. We hope to get a stallion prospect. We're very happy to land her. That was our goal. The market is very strong, but we did think that we would have to pay for her. But I think she's worth it."
Earlier in the evening, the mare's dam, Greer Lynn, was purchased by SF Bloodstock for $700,000. Consigned as Hip 125 by Vinery Sales, agent for Spendthrift Farm, the daughter of Speightstown was sold in foal to Claiborne stallion War Front .
Bred in Kentucky by Beechglen Farms, Greer Lynn is out of the Rollin On Over mare Roll Over Baby, a stakes winner who also produced grade 3 winners Sing Baby Sing and Roll Hennessy Roll and stakes winners Value Plus and Majorbigtimesheet.
Greer Lynn is the dam of four winners.
