Louis Tisbert, a multiple stakes-placed owner, trainer, and breeder on the former New England circuit, died at The Meadows in North Andover, Mass. Oct. 30 surrounded by his family. He was 88.
Tisbert, who operated LC Stables, conditioned most of the horses he owned. According to Equibase, as a trainer he sent out 259 horses who compiled a record of 23-30-21 and earned $276,329, and as an owner, his 230 starters had 16 wins, 26 seconds and 19 thirds and earned $286,416. His best horse was Affirmed Reality, who was stakes-placed in races restricted to Massachsuetts-breds at Suffolk Downs.
He was also the owner of L. Tisbert Masonry for more than 40 years and was a member of the Bricklayers Union Number 3 in Massachusetts.
The widower to Claire Tisbert is survived by sons Stephen Tisbert and Joseph Tisbert and daughters Ellen Allen, Julie White, and Suzanne Kearns, 13 grandchildren, and nine great grandchilden. He is also survived by his brother Robert Tisbert and sisters Pauline Hilbert and Janet Girard, and he was pre-deceased by eight brothers and sisters.
A funeral mass of Christian burial was celebrated for him Nov. 4 and he was laid to rest in Spring Grove Cemetary in Andover, Mass.
