Renee Dailey of Dailey Bloodstock continued her quest for Constitution weanlings Nov. 11, purchasing a $150,000 colt from the consignment of James M. Herbener Jr., agent, to the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.
The price was the highest brought by any weanling on the day.
"We are in pursuit of Constitution and we're trying to stick to buying colts from here on out," said Dailey, who purchased the weanling on behalf of new partnership. "My partners feel very strong about Constitution being the next Into Mischief so I felt like he was the best one I had seen so far. (We're) big fans of Constitution so we're looking for the good ones and I feel like we got one this time."
Consigned as Hip 2080, the bay colt was bred in Kentucky by Herbender and Dr. and Mrs. Patrick J. Ford, VMD. He is the 10th foal out of the Dixie Union mare Spikes, who has also produced stakes-placed winners Powerpointer and Awesome Together. The colts extended family includes stakes winners O Dionysus and Joy, as well as Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) victor Vinceremos.
Hip 2080 was the second of three Constitution weanlings purchased by Dailey over the first week of the sale. She went to $40,000 for Hip 1487, a filly by the WinStar Farm sire consigned by Four Star Sales, agent. Bred in Kentucky by the Constitution Syndicate and Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Huber, the filly is out of the Songandaprayer mare Humble Song and is from the female family of graded stakes winner Around the Cape.
Buying as agent for B & B, Dailey picked up Hip 2289 for $57,000 near the close of Monday's session. Consigned by Select Sales, agent, the bay son of Constitution is the first foal out of the Artie Schiller mare Glamour Queen, who is a half sister to stakes winner Midst. He was bred in Kentucky by Tommy Wente and the Constitution Syndicate.
Dailey has also purchased a Connect colt (Hip 1735), a Practical Joke filly (Hip 1472), and a Mohaymen colt (Hip 1876). Total receipts for her six weanling purchases comes to $580,000.
"I have a lot of different clients and they come together in different ways," Dailey explained. "Some are in the sale group, some are in all the groups together, we're very liberal in partnering with people, and I think it's a good way to make business.
"Carrie Brogden and Craig Brogden have been very supportive of me at this sale as well as John Greathouse. We've had a lot of different partners that come from them and I think it's going to be fun. I think we will have a great group of people next year with these horses and I think we will have fun at the sales."
