Norton Grove Stud has filled the vacancy following the death of the popular Monsieur Bond with the recruitment of Sogann, an unraced half brother to Darley Prix Morny (G1) and Qatar Jean-Luc Lagardere Grand-Criterium (G1) winner and successful Haras de Grandcamp stallion Dabirsim.
Richard Lingwood's Malton premises lost the high-class sprinter and sire of two group 1 scorers only a few weeks ago, leaving Milk It Mick and Pastoral Pursuits still on the books.
Sogann is anything but a familiar name, but his pedigree as a son of Frankel speaks for itself. He was bred by Michel Monfort and Al Shaqab Racing and bought by Richard Knight Bloodstock for €550,000 (US$646,910) as a yearling from the Arqana Deauville August Yearlings Sale in 2017, but failed to reach the racecourse.
"After we lost Monsieur Bond, we hadn't planned on finding a quick replacement," Lingwood said. "We were offered the chance to stand (Sogann), and we're pleased to be able to.
"He's very well bred and is the first Frankel to be standing up in the north, so hopefully local breeders will be happy to support him."
Lingwood said a fee will be announced in due course. Another half brother to Sogann, the once-raced Shaiban, also entered stud at Haras de la Barbottiere in 2018. Dabirsim, the sire of group 3 winners Different League and Coeur de Beaute, stood for €30,000 this year.
