Shadai Stallion Station on Hokkaido Island, which stands or stood Japan's top 10 sires of 2019—including the late Deep Impact and King Kamehameha who passed away earlier this year—announced stud fees for the 2020 breeding season.
The fee of Lord Kanaloa (by King Kamehameha) has been raised from ¥15 million in 2019 to ¥20 million (US$181,818). The fee is now the most expensive stud price in Japan.
The 2013 Japanese Horse of the Year is the sire of Almond Eye, who was named Japanese Horse of the Year in 2018, and Stelvio, winner of last year's Mile Championship (G1). He is also the sire of Saturnalia, who won the Hopeful Stakes (G1) and Satsuki Sho (Japanese Two Thousand Guineas, G1) this year. He is currently ranked third on the international leading sires list behind Deep Impact and Heart's Cry.
The fee of Heart's Cry (Sunday Silence), sire of Lys Gracieux, who won the Takarazuka Kinen (G1) and Ladbrokes Cox Plate (G1) this year, has been raised from ¥8 million to ¥10 million ($90,909). Rulership (King Kamehameha), the sire of Stella Artois Caulfield Cup (G1) winner Mer de Glace, has been raised from ¥4 million to ¥6 million ($54,545), and Kizuna (Deep Impact), who is likely to be Japan's champion freshman sire of 2019, has been raised from ¥3.5 million to ¥6 million ($54,545) in 2020.
Fees for Bricks and Mortar and New Year's Day, the newest recruits to Shadai's roster for 2020, are set at ¥6 million ($54,5454) and ¥3 million ($27,273), respectively.
