Trainer Chad Brown has entered a pair of 3-year-old fillies to compete in the $300,000 Mrs. Revere Stakes (G2T) Nov. 29 at Churchill Downs. Though his two are the lightest raced of 14 sophomore fillies entered in the 1 1/16-mile grass event, they'll both be strong contenders entering off fall stakes victories.
Topping the duo is Klaravich Stables' New and Improved, winner of the Oct. 12 Sands Point Stakes (G2T) at Belmont Park. The Cairo Prince filly is a winner in two of three starts. Following a first-out maiden score, she rallied to finish fourth in the Aug. 22 Riskaverse Stakes at Saratoga Race Course after hitting the gate, then rebounded with a last-to-first effort in the 1 1/8-mile Sands Point.
First Row Partners and Hidden Brook Farm's Nay Lady Nay, an Irish-bred daughter of No Nay Never, is a winner in two of four starts for Brown, who cross-entered her in the Nov. 28 Winter Memories Stakes at Aqueduct. She won her stakes debut last out, closing from ninth to pull clear in the Oct. 7 Parx Fall Oaks at Parx Racing.
Stiff competition could come from Katsumi Yoshida's The Macken Bullet, who returned from a six-month layoff Oct. 18 at Keeneland to finish third, beaten three-quarters of a length in the Pin Oak Valley View Stakes (G3T). The Irish-bred Society Rock filly joined Wesley Ward's barn after finishing sixth in the 2018 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) at Churchill. This April she won Keeneland's Appalachian Stakes Presented by Japan Racing Association (G2T).
Off the board in two starts since her breakthrough victory at Churchill Downs, Hard Legacy will remain home for the Mrs. Revere. Norm Casse trains the homebred Hard Spun filly for the Estate of Marylou Whitney. Casse scored his first stakes win as a trainer with her in the June 15 Regret Stakes (G3T) going 1 1/8 miles on the local Matt Winn Turf Course.
Regret runner-up Winter Sunset also returns in the Mrs. Revere. Two starts ago the Tapit filly out of multiple grade 1 turf winner Winter Memories, the namesake of the Nov. 28 stakes, picked up her second stakes win in the Sept. 4 Indiana Grand Stakes. Trained by Wayne Catalano for Coffeepot Stable and Phillips Racing, she has placed in three of five graded attempts.
Five fillies in the Mrs. Revere are making their first start since the Valley View: The Mackem Bullet, multiple stakes-placed Dalika (fifth), stakes-placed Wildlife (sixth), Hard Legacy (eighth), and Winter Sunset (10th).
Amandrea, Winning Envelope, and She'sonthewarpath—second, third, and fourth, respectively, behind Winter Sunset in the Indiana Grand Stakes—are also expected to meet again.
Julia's Ready, Proud Emma, Passionof the Nile, and Delta's Kingdom complete the field.
