Group I Winner Reckless Abandon Retired

Sheikh Mohammed's Darley announced Oct. 14 that multiple group I winner Reckless Abandon has been retired and will stand at Darley's Kildangan Stud in County Kildare, Ireland for 2014 for a fee to be determined.
Trained by Clive Cox, Reckless Abandon retires with a 5-0-1 record from eight starts, with earnings of $587,978.
A speedy son of Exchange Rate —Sant Elena, by Efisio, Reckless Abandon won all five of his juvenile starts including the Darley Prix Morny and the Vision.ae Middle Park Stakes, both group I, and the group II Norfolk Stakes and Robert Papin. He was highweighted 2-year-old colt in France for 2012. This year, the colt was winless in three starts in England and France while finishing third in the Betfred.com Temple Stakes (Eng-II).
Bred in Great Britain by Car Colston Hall Stud, Reckless Abandon was purchased by trainer Cox for $39,122 from his breeder's consignment to the 2011 Doncaster premier yearling sale.
Campaigned by Julie Deadman and Stephen Barrow, Reckless Abandon was purchased by Darley following his Prix Morny victory but was leased back to Deadman and Barrow to continue his racing career through the end of 2013.
"Reckless Abandon was an unbeaten champion 2-year-old, a brilliant sprinter and he has the physique to match," said Sam Bullard, Darley's director of stallions, of the French highweighted 2-year-old colt. "He's an attractive, strong, young stallion and is very likely to sire precocity. We are thrilled to have him join the Darley roster for 2014 and have no doubt that he will be very popular with breeders."
