The New York Racing Association has canceled the Nov. 28 Thanksgiving Day live racing program at Aqueduct Racetrack because of dangerously high winds forecast to impact the New York City metropolitan area.

The National Weather Service, as well as NYRA's independent weather forecasting services, are calling for sustained high winds throughout the day with gusts in excess of 40 mph. In anticipation of these conditions, NYRA canceled live racing in the interest of safety.

Aqueduct becomes the second major racetrack to cancel racing on Thanksgiving due to weather. The loss of the Aqueduct card follows the previous cancellation at Del Mar because of forecast showers in Southern California.

Aqueduct Racetrack will remain open for simulcasting Thursday until 6 p.m.

The $200,000 Fall Highweight Handicap (G3), initially scheduled for Thursday, will be run Dec. 1. The $100,000 Central Park and $150,000 Winter Memories will be rescheduled for a date to be determined.

Live racing is scheduled to resume at Aqueduct Nov. 29 with a first post of 11:50 a.m. EST.
