Lady Noguez breaks her maiden Nov. 29 at Woodbine

Ontario-bred Lady Noguez became the first winner for her sire, Conquest Curlinate, when she widened away to victory Nov. 29 in a CA$43,330 (US$32,625) maiden claiming race for 2-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

The 2-year-old Nicholas Gonzalez trainee was entered for a $25,000 tag, but was not claimed. She broke inward from post 3 under jockey Steven Bahen in a field of nine for the 1 1/16-mile test, but was quickly steadied and found a place to settle midpack. Pacesetter Cefalo posted fractions of :25.01, :50.31, and 1:15.43 on the all-weather track before Lady Noguez surged to the lead in upper stretch, then drew off under a hand ride to a four-length score.

The final time was 1:48.43.

It was the second start for Lady Noguez, who races for Lucio Tucci and Martha K. Gonzalez. She finished fourth on debut Nov. 16 going seven furlongs at Woodbine.

Bred by Charles Hayden out of the Sadler's Wells mare Lileagh, Lady Noguez was a $14,000 purchase by Hidden Brook from Golden Noguez's consignment to the Ocala Breeders' Sales June Sale of 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age. She was pinhooked to the sale by Aureliano Noguez, who picked her up for $4,000 from Cara Bloodstock's 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale draft.

Grade 2-placed Conquest Curlinate, a son of Curlin  out of the Peaks and Valleys mare Higher World, stands at Shannondoe Farm in Ontario. His 2019 fee was CA$5,000.
