California Chrome is set to take up stud duties in Japan alongside Shanghai Bobby, who begins his second year at Arrow Stud in 2020.
Located at Shizunai on Hokkaido Island, Arrow Stud announced 2020 stud fees and has set California Chrome at ¥4 million (about US$36,500).
Shanghai Bobby, who was introduced to the Arrow Stud roster prior to the 2019 breeding season, will again stand for ¥2 million ($18,250) in 2020, unchanged from 2019 when he covered 109 mares.
California Chrome, Horse of the Year in 2014 and 2016, was a winner of seven top-level races and entered stud at Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky in 2017 where he has stood for three seasons. His 2019 fee was US$35,000.
The first crop from the son of Lucky Pulpit will reach racing age in 2020.
In addition to winning world class dirt races, such as the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) and the Dubai World Cup Sponsored By Emirates Airline (G1), the two-time Eclipse champion also won the Hollywood Derby (G1T) on turf and breeders in Hokkaido expect him to sire top class turf performers in Japan.
Roger Barows, also a new sire at Arrow Stud for 2020, will stand for a fee of ¥1.2 million ($10,950). The son of Deep Impact won three of six starts, including this year's grade 1 Japanese Derby (Tokyo Yushun). Though Roger Barows held entry for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1) at ParisLongchamp in October, he was instead retired from racing with a tendon injury.
