A field of 10 horses, many with ties to American racing interests, has been entered for the US$150,000 DSH Caribbean Star Limited Pitons Cup Dec. 13 at the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club, the richest race in the Caribbean.

The Pistons Cup, contested at 1,800 meters (about 1 1/8 miles) and named after the island's iconic mountains, is patterned after the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) at Gulfstream Park with participating owners purchasing a racing slot.

"The DSH Caribbean Star Limited Pitons Cup is bringing the world to Saint Lucia and in turn, promoting Saint Lucia to the world," said Eden Harrington, executive director of the Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club.

Racing will be conducted medication free, according to officials.

"The Royal Saint Lucia Turf Club is committed to clean racing and has adopted a zero-tolerance approach to performance enhancing medications and substances," said the club's official veterinarian, Dr. Belinda Rose. "It has implemented medication thresholds in accordance with the International Federation of Horseracing Authority guidelines on the use of medications such as bisphosphonates and cobalt. Additionally, Saint Lucia promotes racing Lasix free and is committed to clean and transparent racing."
