Cairenn wins an Aug. 31 handicap at Colonial Downs

WSS Racing is hoping to reap a quick dividend from Cairenn in the $100,000 Rampart Stakes (G3) Dec. 14 at Gulfstream Park.

WSS bought the First Dude  mare last month from the ELiTE consignment at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, paying $180,000 for a 5-year-old who earned $333,410 for previous owners.

In her last start before the sale, she was third for trainer Graham Motion in the Chilukki Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs. The grade 3-placed mare was victorious before that, taking a $77,000 handicap race at Colonial Downs as a 4-5 favorite.

New trainer John Ortiz will put British-born jockey Sophie Doyle aboard Cairenn, who will break from post 10 in a field of 11 entered in the mile stakes for fillies and mares at the South Florida racetrack.

Arindel's Cookie Dough has displayed a fondness for Gulfstream Park in the past, finishing second this year in the Davona Dale Stakes (G2) at the same one-turn mile distance. Reunited for Saturday's race with trainer Stanley Gold, who handled her last winter, she was no worse than third in six of her seven starts at Gulfstream.

She was second for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin in the July 5 Victory Ride Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park and then finished fourth in an allowance optional claimer at Saratoga Race Course.

The 3-year-old homebred daughter of Brethren  has not raced since that Aug. 11 loss at the Spa but is training exceptionally for Gold, putting in sharp works of 1:10.81 for six furlongs Nov. 19 and :58.06 for five furlongs Nov. 5, both at the Florida track.

Cookie Dough will break from post 11 with jockey Paco Lopez.

Arindel and Gold also entered Perspire, a 3-year-old daughter of Brethren who will be ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr. in her graded stakes debut.

The entries also include Baccarat Racing's Baccarat Fashion, an 8 1/2-length winner of an allowance optional claimer at Gulfstream Park West; Randall Bloch and Six Column Stables' Molta Bella, who is coming off an allowance optional claiming win at Churchill Downs after a nine-month layoff; and Gainesway Stable and Andrew Rosen's grade 2-placed Pink Sands, whose last start was a third-place finish in the Pumpkin Pie Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack.
