Myboycharlie, who sired international celebrities Euro Charline, Jameka, and Sistercharlie from small fees, is the latest stallion to have been sold to continue his career for the Turkish Jockey Club.
The association has also bought Bodemeister, whose first crop contained Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) hero Always Dreaming , and Super Saver , a former winner of the run for the roses whose offspring include champion sprinter Runhappy , from North America in recent months.
Myboycharlie, a 14-year-old son of Danetime, was sent out by Tommy Stack to win the Dubai Duty Free Anglesey Stakes (G3) and Darley Prix Morny (G1) and to finish third in the Bank of Scotland National Stakes (G1) at 2.
One of the first stallion prospects bought by SF Bloodstock, he started out at the National Stud in Newmarket but has stood at Haras du Mezeray in Normandy since 2012. He never stood at a fee higher than €6,500 until this year, when he was advertised at €7,500.
Myboycharlie has outperformed the chances he was granted by supplying the likes of Euro Charline, an 800 guineas (US$1,330) Tattersalls February Sale yearling purchase who won the Beverly D Stakes (G1T) and was sold to Katsumi Yoshida for 750,000 guineas ($977,918) and Sistercharlie, a €12,000 ($13,593) Arqana August yearling buy who ran second in the Prix de Diane Longines (G1) and became a seven-time grade 1 winner in the US as well as champion turf female.
His present flagbearer is Rise High, who won a Leopardstown group 3 under the name Landfall for Ken Condon at 2 and has become a high-class performer at Sha Tin, where he ran a close third behind Win Bright in Sunday's Longines Hong Kong Cup (G1).
Myboycharlie also shuttled to Vinery and later Bowness Stud in Australia, and supplied the Southern Hemisphere group 1 winners Begood Toya Mother, Jameka, and Peggy Jean.
"The horse has been sold to the Turkish Jockey Club and will enter quarantine on Wednesday," Mezeray owner Charles-Henri de Moussac said. "We're very sad to lose a horse like Myboycharlie; every year he was able to produce a horse with well above average ability, as we saw on Sunday with Rise High in Hong Kong.
"But the fact is, he became more of a stallion for owner-breeders than commercial breeders. We know the stallion market is very competitive and young horses are constantly pushing the older ones, except the very established sires."
De Moussac said Myboycharlie will be well represented in France and wider European racing after his departure to Turkey.
"The sire-line wasn't well represented in France when we first stood him," he said. "He was an early 2-year-old and won the Prix Morny, so he was interesting from a commercial point of view. However, his best horses have blossomed at 3. It's sad that he goes now as I think he'll have around 80 2-year-olds in training next year thanks to the big season he had three years ago.
"We thank SF Bloodstock for sending us the horse as he was one of the first stallions in which they invested. We're thankful for the chance to have stood a horse like him and hope that in the future they might stand another of their stallions with us."
Myboycharlie joins Bushranger, another son of Danetime formerly based in western Europe, on the Turkish Jockey Club's roster of stallions.
