Richard C. Pell's Calculator, fifth on the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) points list, will miss the Triple Crown due to an undisclosed injury.
Trainer Peter Miller said the son of In Summation purchased for $132,000 from breeder Ocala Stud at the 2014 Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. April sale of 2-year-olds in training would be sidelined for about six months. He said the prognosis is that the 3-year-old will be able to return to 100% once the injury has healed.
Calculator worked a bullet five furlongs in 1:00 2/5, the fastest time among 10 at that distance, at San Luis Rey Downs the morning of Jan. 31.
Calculator had accumulated 14 points on the road to the Derby, with a victory in the Sham Stakes (gr. III) and second-place efforts in the Del Mar Futurity and FrontRunner Stakes, both grade I.
The Sham marked the sole victory to date for Calculator, who has three placings from five starts and earned $193,500.
