Midnight Bisou returned to the work tab Dec. 19 at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, breezing an easy half-mile in :53 3/5 for trainer Steve Asmussen in her first recorded work since the Breeders' Cup.
"We are extremely excited to have our filly gearing up for 2020," said Jeff Bloom, whose Bloom Racing Stable co-owns the 4-year-old daughter of Midnight Lute with Madaket Stables and Allen Racing. "She's had a very nice mini-break and has been beautifully easing back to full training."
Midnight Bisou is pointing toward the $20 million Saudi Cup Feb. 29 in Riyadh. Her string of seven consecutive graded stakes wins was snapped Nov. 2 when she finished second to Blue Prize in the Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) at Santa Anita Park. She was pulled from The November Sale, Fasig-Tipton's marquee breeding stock sale, the morning of that race.
"In the end, we decided we simply wanted to race her another year," Bloom said. "She's such a special filly who loves every bit of her job. Plus, she's still young."
Midnight Bisou has a record of 12-4-3 from 19 starts and a bankroll of $3.75 million. Bred in Kentucky by Woodford Thoroughbreds out of the Repent mare Diva Delite, she was a $19,000 RNA from her breeder's consignment to the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, then sold under Woodford's banner to Bloom for $80,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sales 2017 Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training.
