Description:

The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation (TERF) has awarded the Maryland Horse Industry Foundation (MHIF) $10,000 for educational purposes.

MHIF was chartered in 1988 by the Maryland Horse Breeders Association (MHBA) to serve various educational and charitable needs of the Maryland horse industry. MHIF supports a number of programs and is responsible for the maintenance and expansion of the Maryland Horse reference library.

In 2018, TERF generously supported MHIF in launching their first Work Experience Program. This program allowed four individuals to gain valuable work experience. For instance, one participant, Erin Dunnigan, worked in the MHBA office assisting with membership development, magazine circulation, event planning, and more.

In alignment with their own mission to support and promote equine education and research by sponsoring scholarships in veterinary medicine and supporting organizations that are educating the public in the proper care of horses, TERF will continue to assist MHIF in funding for the Work Experience program as well as the Maryland Thoroughbred Career Program, an annual six-day internship program.

TERF's grants reflect the values set forth by founders Herb and Ellen Moelis during TERF's 2013 inception. TERF's current board includes co-Chairs Kathleen Anderson, DVM, and James Orsini, DVM, Margaret H. Duprey, Gretchen and Roy Jackson, Ellen and Herb Moelis, Wendy Moon, Anita Motion, Toni Orsini, Scott Palmer, Josh Pons, and Lucy Zungailia.
