Yearlings by prominent Canadian stallions Old Forester and Langfuhr topped the Winter Mixed Sale conducted by the Ontario Division of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Nov. 23 at the at the Woodbine Racetrack sales pavilion.
Both sale toppers were bred in Ontario by Gustav Schickendanz and consigned by Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency, agent.
Top price of CAN$72,000 (US$54,130) was paid by Richard G. Hogan, agent for Colebrook Farms, for a 2018 Old Forester colt produced from the Curlin mare Thats Our Princess, a winner in the U.S. and Canada who is also the dam of stakes-placed Appella. The colt's second dam, the stakes-winning mare Princess Ruckus, is a half sister to Canadian champion and leading sire Langfuhr and is the dam of grade 2 winner City Boy and multiple stakes winner Vibank.
Second-highest price of CAN$47,000 (US$35,335) was paid by Zack Cameron, Donald P. Howard, and Michael Keogh for a Langfuhr yearling filly half sister to stakes winner Will She, multiple stakes-placed Sweet Grass Creek, and stakes-placed Sweet Crimson. The filly is out of the stakes-placed City Zip mare Sweet Bama Breeze.
From 135 horses cataloged, CTHS reported 70 head changed hands for gross receipts of CAN$344,800 (US$259,221), an average price of $4,926 ($3,703) and a $1,350 ($1,015) median. The 45 horses that went unsold represented an RNA rate of 39.1%.
