Nellie Cashman Heads Pin Oak Valley View

Description:

Hot off a series of bullet workouts and looking to redeem a disqualification in her last start, 2013 graded stakes winner Nellie Cashman heads an overflow field of well-matched 3-year-old fillies in the Oct. 18 Pin Oak Valley View Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Keeneland.

The ninth race on the card, the 1 1/16-mile Pin Oak Valley View has an approximate post time of 5:21 p.m. EDT.

In her previous outing, Nellie Cashman, a Pennsylvania-bred daughter of Mineshaft  Alison's Winner, by Pine Bluff, was first by a nose in the Aug. 18 Lake Placid (gr. IIT) at Saratoga Race Course, but was demoted to third after stewards ruled she had drifted into the path of the rallying Watsdachances in deep stretch.

Before that, the dark bay or brown filly broke her maiden by a decisive 5 1/4 lengths at Hollywood Casino at Penn National going the Pin Oak Valley distance, followed by a half-length score in the July 13 Virginia Oaks (gr. IIIT) at Colonial Downs. Trained by Francis Abbott for Sycamore Racing, she holds an overall record of 2-3-2 from nine starts, for earnings of $160,770.

Nellie Cashman's four most recent drills have been bullets, including an Oct. 5 workout where she covered four furlongs in :48 flat and was the fastest of 17 horses going the same distance that day at Fair Hill Training Center. Bred by Nelson Clemmens, Nellie Cashman will have to overcome the outside post under regular jockey Forest Boyce in her first start at the Lexington oval.

Unbelievable Dream is looking to snap a four-race losing streak in the Pin Oak Valley View after capturing the April 18 Appalachian Stakes Presented by Japan Racing Association (gr. IIIT). Trained by Barclay Tagg for Sure Thing Stables, she has the advantage of being the only filly to have previously won a stakes at Keeneland and enters the Pin Oak off a third in the Aug. 30 Riskaverse Stakes at Saratoga.

The daughter of Kitalpha will be ridden by jockey Rosie Napravnik and will break from post 12. Unbelievable Dream is the co-highweight, carrying 122 pounds along with Nellie Cashman.

Other viable contenders include Overheard, a stakes winner at Woodbine this summer and second by a half length to Unbelievable Dream in the Appalachian; and additional 2013 stakes victors I O Ireland, Summer of Fun, and Yuzuru, all of which have either won or placed in races at Keeneland. Graded stakes-placed runners Frivolous, Sustained, and Every Way; stakes-placed runner Miss Lamour; and allowance winners She's Popular and Stormin Elle complete the field.
