Bettina Lindsay Jenney, a retired breeder of Thoroughbred racehorses who owned and managed Derry Meeting Farm, died at her home Dec. 22 in Greenville, Del. She was 86 years old.

Born in Bedford Hills, N.Y., Jenney grew up in Lake Forest, Ill., graduated from Garrison Forest School and attended Smith College. After Smith, Bettina moved to New York City to work for Time Inc. She then married Josiah (Jay) Scott, from Wilmington, Del., and settled in Wilmington where they raised their two daughters.

After Scott died, Bettina married Marshall Jenney and moved to Derry Meeting Farm near Cochranville, Pa. Derry Meeting Farm is the co-breeder with W.S. Farish of the influential sire Danzig. Derry Meeting also bred Irish and multiple English champion Mrs. Penny, and three-time grade 1 winner Yankee Affair, who earned more than $2.28 million.

Bettina managed the farm after Marshall Jenney died and would breed and race the talented racehorse Mrs. Lindsay (named after her mother), winner of top-level races in 2007 in France and Canada—respectively the Prix Vermeille Lucien Barriere (G1) and E. P. Taylor Stakes (G1).

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Jan. 9 at Christ Church Christiana Hundred in Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Newfound Lake Region Association, 10 North Main Street, Unit 1, Bristol, NH, 03222. Being at her family's house on Newfound Lake was the highlight of her year.

Bettina Lindsay Jenney is survived by her sister, Seton Lindsay O'Reilly; daughters Lindsay Scott and Sally Scott; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her step-daughters Annie Jenney Darrow and Laura Jenney Roe and their five children.
