Gainesway Farm has appointed Alex Solis II as director of bloodstock, the Kentucky operation announced Jan. 2.

Solis has established a top-class reputation as a bloodstock agent. His résumé was enhanced in 2019 by Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) winner Country House and Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) winner Covfefe. Past selections include champion Shared Belief and two-time Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint (G1T) winner Mizdirection.

In the past 10 years, Solis' partnership with Jason Litt at Solis/Litt Bloodstock has advised the purchase of 11 grade 1 winners and 46 graded stakes horses.

"It is an honor to be offered this role," Solis said. "It brings together my passions of breeding and racing, and I could not be more excited to join the team at Gainesway."

Antony Beck, the farm's owner, hailed the recruitment of one of the most talented horsemen of his generation as a perfect start to the new decade.

"It is exciting for a person as accomplished as Alex Solis to join Gainesway Farm as director of bloodstock," Beck said. "Alex is a class act of a human being, and his participation will be a great asset—both to Gainesway and to our potential partners—as we expand our stallion roster and racing ventures. I could not be more enthused about the future."

The arrival of Solis attests to Beck's ongoing strategy of combining continuity and tradition at Gainesway with progress and renewal. In October, he promoted Brian Graves as general manager.

Solis, whose standing in the industry is measured by a seat on the Breeders' Cup board of directors, will continue to advise clients of Solis/Litt Bloodstock, including LNJ Foxwoods, Jim Rome, KMN Racing, and NK Racing.

In a statement from Gainesway, Solis said he is thrilled to be opening a new chapter at one of the most storied operations in the Bluegrass.

"I want to thank Antony and Brian for this opportunity and look forward to utilizing my previous experience to help shape the future of Gainesway Farm," he said. "I will continue to work closely with my team at Solis/Litt as we advise our current clients, and we thank them for their support in this new venture."
