Wagering on U.S. races dropped slightly in 2019, as a total of $11,038,790,395 was bet, a 2% dip from the total of $11,263,943,823 in 2018. Purses were up 4.49% from $1,117,743,340 to $1,167,921,650, while total number of races dropped slightly to 36,207 from 36,586. Average field size also fell from 7.65 to 7.53.
