First Foal for Always Dreaming is a Filly

WinStar Farm's 2017 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) winner Always Dreaming  sired his first reported foal Jan. 6 when a filly was born at Delia Nash's Dromingrove Farm. Bred by Nash, the filly is the third foal out of the stakes-placed Exchange Rate mare Lemon Liqueur.

"She is very attractive just like her daddy," Nash said. "We are very pleased with her. She has all the attributes you hope for when you breed to a Kentucky Derby winner. We are looking forward to watching her develop."

Lemon Liqueur also has a newly-turned 2-year-old filly by Quality Road  named Bleecker Street who sold to Peter Brant for $400,000 at The Saratoga Sale, Fasig-Tipton's select yearling sale, last year and will be trained by Chad Brown.

Also a winner of the Xpressbet Florida Derby (G1), Always Dreaming earned $2,415,860 from a record of 4-2-2 in 11 starts on the racetrack for owners Brooklyn Boyz Stables, Teresa Viola Racing Stables, Siena Farm, West Point Thoroughbreds, MeB Racing Stables, and St. Elias Stables.

Trained by Todd Pletcher and bred by Santa Rosa Partners, Always Dreaming hails from the dominant Unbridled sire line and represents four straight generations of the line that finished first or second in the Kentucky Derby. He broke his maiden by an eye-catching 11 1/2 lengths in his 3-year-old debut, and later captured the Florida Derby by five lengths in the fastest time since Alydar in 1978—1:47.47. 

Always Dreaming, who covered 165 mares in his first book, is set to stand his second season at stud in 2020 for $25,000, with a stands and nurses guarantee.
