Horseman Richardson Dies at Age 75

Longtime horsemen Larry Wayne Richardson died at his Lexington home Jan. 13. He was 75.

Richardson, who moved to the city in 1982, held numerous positions within the racing industry, including general manager of Nelson Bunker Hunt's Bluegrass Farm. He also established multiple racing syndicates and other bloodstock ventures, and joined with Jim Phelps to acquire Xalapa Training Center in Bourbon County, Ky., and renamed it Stony Oak. Richardson recently was business development manager at Tufco Flooring.

Born in Maryland to the late J.D. and Margaret Richardson, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Richardson, and sister-in-law Donna McCranie.

Richardson is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn Richardson; his sons Justin (Jessica) and Cody (Daisy); and grandchildren, Rowlin, Reed, Annslee, and Tate. Other family includes his mother-in-law, Beulah Stephens; nephew, Brand Richardson (Tanya); and nieces, nephews and extended family. 

Services will be held Jan. 16 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Road in Lexington. Visitation will be from 12:30-2:30 pm ET followed by the funeral service, officiated by Gordon Walls.
