Covfefe, the small filly with the big blaze, was clearly the top sprinter of her generation in 2019, and when she defeated the best older female sprinters in the Nov. 2 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1), she cemented her Eclipse Award-winning campaign.
Bred by Alexander-Groves Thoroughbreds, Covfefe was a $250,000 purchase at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling Sale by Alex Solis II and Jason Litt for LNJ Foxwoods, the racing team of Larry, Nancy, and Jaime Roth.
Covfefe won five of six starts on the year, and won a pair of grade 1 stakes that set the tone for the year. She delivered an electrifying effort in Pimlico's Adena Springs Miss Preakness Stakes (G3), breaking a 29-year-old track record for six furlongs (1:07.70) and defeated Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Serengeti Empress in Saratoga Race Course's Longines Test Stakes (G1).
Her step out race was the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita Park. She didn't disappoint. The daughter of leading sire Into Mischief is also a nominee for outstanding 3-year-old filly.
